This week’s brief was very interesting. We had to think of critical thinkers, designers, artists and design movements of all time and put their names on a timeline on a huge piece of paper. This exercise help us recognise critical thinking. It helps us realise who the critical thinkers and designers were and why were they called as such.We all teamed up as a whole big team and came up with names to go on the timeline. I had to struggle with the years as I’m not good with remembering the numbers. But, I definitely had some idea what names I had to put in there. Some of the contributions That I made to the timeline were:
- Impressionism
- Leonardo Da Vinci
- Monet
- Gandhi
- Disney
- Baroque
- Discovery of Green House Effect
- Progressive Artists Group Bombay (Souza, Raza, Hussain, etc.)
- Birth Control Pill
- Hippie Movement
- Elvis Presley
- India Wins World Cup
- Lalit Kumar Modi (started IPL)
- Hotmail
- Dot.com Bubble
- Twin Tower attack in New York
- Honey Singh
It is still an ongoing process and I still feed this timeline as much as I can. Today a girl named ‘Aegin’ from MA Fashion Promotion and Imaging in UCA praised this timeline and said that there is so much useful information in it.
Another important thing that I realised from this exercise is when the major changes took place in the history in terms of design and critical thinking and how they are related to each other. We see a lot of activity during industrial revolution and also during the advent of internet.
You can see the pictures us creating the timeline for the first time and its current pictures below:
