This is by far, the most challenging brief I’ve received in my career. Its about digging deep inside and finding what I truly believe in. This part was easy. But finding a way to present it in a way which can be exhibited in the main reception of UCA. My tutors booked the reception for my course and we were supposed to fill that space with our inner most intimate feelings. That is tough. It made me nervous. What if I underperformed?
I had to perform. So, I start reading other people manifestos. I read a lot of Art manifestos. Also I read Technology manifestos. But it was still very vague. So I start digging deep inside of me. So here is what I feel:
Technology has a place in all of our lives, whether we like it or not. But its not accessible by all. So, what needs to change? It should be more user-friendly. It should adapt to our needs, not that we should change ourselves to accommodate technology. There should not be any learning curve involved. Technology, or any design for that matter should attempt to solve more than one problem. Technology should be more humanistic.
So, I came up with this strange idea that a piece of technology, that looks very human, should present my message to the audience. I thought of putting up a projector on a mannequin’s head which would project my message on the wall in front of it.
Here is my presentation for my idea that I was going to do:

But, My tutors were not convinced with the message that the projector was going to project. It just seemed too bland. I also seemed to agree with them. So, I dug deeper. This is what I found:
All the things that I wrote said about technology before were very idealistic. It might not be possible to make technology like that. But I believe that if all us designers put our heads to it then, a lot of it was possible. Voilà! this is it! I found it my message. If design works with technology, and technology works with design then a lot problems can be solved. So, I’m not only presenting problems, I’m also showing a ray of hope for a viable solution. Please see the pictures of my exhibition piece below.
